When cordons broke and borders were born… Western Galicia Province in November 1918

The 19th century, referred to by historians as the “long century”, it lasted from beginning of French Revolution (in case Poland, time Partitioning) collapse “old” European order in wake Great War. For Poles living Austrian partition, twilight old era came November 1918, a month that can unquestionably be regarded “longest month” century”. It was which situation counties Western Galician changed like kaleidoscope: euphoria, through critical moments, relative stability.
 Euphoria took hold Polish homes late October and early when control cities towns scattered across Galicia. euphoric state associated with regaining independence passed very quickly, if persisted, rather among those strong national political consciousness. Nevertheless, for majority inhabitants Galicia, particular concern about what following day would bring issues food, clothing, energy shortages fore. Food prices “skyrocketed”, reaching dizzying levels autumn 1918. Common violence, affecting mainly Jewish population, became plague. Midway thanks actions taken Liquidation Commission, process stabilising social life began, reflected successive revival (or organisation) “non-political” associations reorganisation municipal (communal) self-government counties.
